throw stones!

Recently on the news, I was deeply shocked at seeing how a couple accused of adultery was stoned to death in Afghanistan under the Taliban look triumphalist. Rocks! Is not that what also struck by seeing those hundreds of opponents to throw stones in the streets of Cairo and other cities in the Middle East?

I witnessed such a clash in Jerusalem, Friday, March 30th of the year 2001. We just finished our lunch when, after prayers at Al Aksa mosque, Palestinian youths began throwing stones at Israeli soldiers stationed youth in the alley in front of our house. It is located inside the old Arab neighborhood near the Lion Gate. The sound of bombs the Israeli army in no way reduces the enthusiasm of protesters who chanted the cries of Allah Akbar.

the second floor of my bedroom window protected by shutters, attending a violent confrontation that television reports can transmit faithfully. The stones on the terraces and resulted in the courtyard of the house, including glass beads thrown at high speed by skillfully manipulated fronds by the protesters. In a previous conflict, one of my colleagues had seen a young Palestinian boy dying from a bullet to the head. Suddenly, a cohort of students rushed to the lift. Several were then soaked their hands in his blood, blood of a martyr.

Soon after my arrival in Jerusalem, I have breathed hatred that emerged from alleys and city walls. Is it possible to breathe Hatred? Yes! This is especially true in finding that the stones used in construction of existing buildings from the ruins of war destruction of centuries past. It's a cycle that continues past 3000 years.

I was walking one day in Bar Lane Kur in search of a historic site, two children I threw small stones under the gaze of disinterested adults. They took me for a Jew? I avoided the escalation in speaking kindly to them. My accent was enough to assure them that I was a "strange" visitor. Like me, these children breathed this atmosphere unhealthy rivalry combined with the constant provocation of the Israeli occupation. Without realizing it, these children do not understand they were met by a germ of death which the seed was thrown into the human heart for centuries.

Then May 20, 2001, to be precise, I meditated on the terrace at the back of the land where our house is located, that is to say by the pool of probation where Jesus healed the paralytic lying on his pallet (John 5 1-19). One can still see the ruins of the five gates on which are ruins of other churches destroyed during Muslim conquests.

I slowly penetrated into inner silence. My breathing was accompanying a level of peace that seemed endless. Soon reached a plateau, I went down to a level deeper and deeper. It was an experience I had never previously lived with such intensity, never repeated since. Everything became surreal. It seemed to me a level beyond time in the sweet sensation of a sunny afternoon. And then came a new attack.

Just before the beginning of my meditation, I had two boys who graciously welcomed similarly answered me in an English schoolboy. Hidden behind the wall that separated us from the alley, they threw me small stones. They fell all around me by making a slight noise in the foliage. The first time I jumped a little without being distracted. Then a second! A third! And again! They tried to intimidate me. Peace came to disappear in a game of hide and seek in which children's heads pointing to the top of the wall to check if their bullets had reached their goal. The meditation was broken. I understood that silence was even threatened Jerusalem.

These days, it is not child's play which engaged people in Arab countries. The stones are killing in the cries of hatred between opponents.

- Do you think peace will come one day in Israel? was I once asked.

- No! Not before Christ's return, I replied .

- Why?

- Politically, left to itself, the State of Israel can not survive unless it is united against a common enemy. Humanly, it is in Jerusalem, ideal to ponder the mysteries of Jesus' life, that hearts are more thirsty for revenge for many generations. Religiously, he is even between Christian churches, which jealously guard their memory in historical divisions, their petty squabbles. What about the rivalry between the monotheistic religions? Most importantly, it is also here that the silence of God has been annihilated by stones Thirsty homicide that stack on each other, resentment and cries of revolt.

Jesus, are you doing today to transform our hearts of stone heart of flesh?

is a stone on which Jesus built his Church, that of Simon son of Jonah.

Jesus calls PIERRE (John 1.42).

Even today, Jesus brings all the stones of revolt, hatred and anger and turn them into " stones spiritual offering "to make peace of God.

These " painful stones " are those of my unhappiness, of burning my sinful soul, my pain and my fears, my lack of faith and hope, the weakness of my impetus for forgiveness.

These are the stones that Jesus uses to build the edifice of his sacrifice of love that is become a nation of believers which is itself the " cornerstone . The stones of division, which are built on the walls of separation and discrimination, are changed into " gemstones " thanks to Him who recreates the world in abolishing the wall of hatred by the breath of Love crucified .

There's Something About Buffy ...

you probably remember from "Buffy the Vampire cons" This extraordinary series where a young heroine, shared between the daily dramas of adolescence and existential doubts associated with being responsible for the Chosen save the world from demonic forces), hunted vampires in high heels for presentation at Mr Pointy.

I (obviously - but I'm on vacation) swept away by the wave of the modern series (from books or television) of vampires. And, you know what? Everything was already in "Buffy". Or almost ...

A young heroine in love with a vampire? Check!
A nice vampire-styled hair tousled, shimmering brown bronze-skinned, vaguely effeminate air and struggling against its trends vampiristiques? Check!
This vampire goes despite her feelings and leaves the heroine in tears, because he wants to let it grow without the dangers of diving into perpetual and can not be part of its future? Check! A couple
crisis impossible when the lovers spent their first night together? (Admittedly, finding the photo of his double is less dramatic than to lose his soul to his lover, but hey) Check! A bleached blonde vampire
, super sexy, looks like a villain (after all, is a vampire) but is actually much more gray levels than we originally imagined? Check!
A werewolf and a witch? Check!
Said witch who wonders about his tendencies lesbians? Check!
A conspiracy involving the pundits of the city, who know far more than they let appear? Check!
A heroine who (at least the time of an episode) is oddly telepath and hears the thoughts of everyone but vampires? Check!
Vampires allergic verbena? Uh ... Oh no, it's new!

Bloons Part 3 Help On Iphone

Letter No. 11

Shawinigan, February 1, 2011

I'm at the restaurant where I go with Royal St-Arnaud. We will take a small bite before going to the studio to record our radio show. In the meantime, I take a piece of paper I scribble.

The reality is she? Asking the question is to answer it since the "I" exists. Since the theory of Albert Einstein, we know that the observer who determines the angle by which reality is perceived. It is always relative depending on the point of observation, his speed and timing. But the reality is there without observers? Is there an unobservable reality, impossible to define? Finally, the imagination is it a reality? On this point, indeed, imagination is a reality in the symbolic sphere like a rose offered on February 14. By mutual agreement, without actually realizing it, we decided one day a rose, preferably a red rose represents love exchange. Is that logical? No! It is a symbolic language to which we adhere. This is the domain relational rather than rational.

Let's play some more! The real scientist is said to be rational and proper to western culture seems to oppose the real symbolic imaginary order before any relationship strong presence in African culture. Thus, the name of a person is something real, because it symbolically represents the identity thereof. Remove the real symbolism is destroying this reality.

It reminds me the story of a missionary in Australia. This one day found an aborigine extended along a road lost. He stops and finds that man is dying. It helps as best he can. Yet, physically speaking, he still seems healthy. Finally, he manages to connect.
- "What's your name? "
-" I have no name. Village elders banned me. "
Indeed, the Aboriginal had committed serious misconduct and punishment, in addition to the exclusion of the village, was the withdrawal of his name. The poor man died not from hunger, but the abolition of its reality. He had withdrawn his name.
- "In case, said the missionary, I'll give you another name. "
This

baptized and man stood up again in no time. He had found an identity through the symbolic language, that of possessing a name.

In the same vein, how can we say that the Eucharist is real? She becomes the adherence to the symbolic language. The symbol becomes a real presence in identifying the person associated with the symbol of Jesus as such. Saying that the consecrated bread is just bread, is to deny its symbolic dimension. By cons, keep his "power" symbol (sacramental) is to grant him a reality which is the domain relational. It's not just imagination that premium, but also an observable reality, tactile, nurturing physically (the host) and spiritually (the body of Christ).

I'm still shocked by noting the total absence of the mention of the Child Jesus during the recent Christmas party. Everything I saw in the media, are Bebelle Santa Claus. The holiday season in Quebec has nothing Christian. Is this a new paganization the ritual of an old pagan winter celebration that had been Christianized? Actually, no! I do not think need to go that far. Certainly the sense of celebration or commemoration changes with time. But why all abolished?

We are witnessing the rejection of the mystery of the incarnation by removing the child Jesus, his identity. We do not even mention his name. In other words, this reality is deleted at the media sphere that no longer allows the symbolic language to be named. To do so is to dilute our memory, to impoverish our tradition, to deny a part of our heritage, our source identity dry. It is a humiliating affront.

Poverty verbal or be constantly running out of words, is a sign of personal poverty and social. Freedom of expression lies in the ability to make symbolic moods, concepts, ideas, theories, spirituality. An individual or a nation will eventually scream silenced his revolt. This is what happens in the Arab world these days.

Instead of abolishing the symbolic language meaningful as our Quebec society wants to do, we should instead celebrate all the holidays, at least the highlights: those of Christian faith, faith, Muslim, Jewish holidays and Hindu not to mention those Native American communities.

This teaches me that my experience in African soil: the real is foremost in order of relationship before being rational. It's not ignoring the message of the original meaning of the coming of baby Jesus at Christmas to the point of not mentioning his name we will establish relational bridges with our fellow citizens from different cultures and spiritualities. What I want is the inclusion of respect, not the denial of the other, starting with his own reality, excuse me, I mean identity.

Letter No. 10 Quebec Quebec

Choose the way of Jesus

Royal St-Arnaud, permanent deacon in the diocese of Trois-Rivieres, invited me to record an interview that will in Shawinigan February 1 next on Radio Ville-Marie. What is the origin of my vocation approach, wonder there. But how to say a few words the story of a life? Where to begin?

God's call is as mysterious as the origin and purpose of life. This call is as nebulous as the meaning of life, as mysterious. It is as big as the discovery of a place of meaningful engagement. This call consumes the existence in the eddies of the refusal to accommodate the inner voice demanding the abandonment of the narcissistic ego. In truth, this call is scary. Peace is possible only in the free consent to give everything for love.

- Why me? There are others who are much better than me , I said one day to the Lord.

But on a cold winter night under a lamppost obscuring a sky as black as my soul, I looked up and asked me where I find myself next year, two years or five years. Unable to figure anything, a voice emerges from the darkness that changed the rest of my life, "you'll be somewhere. Just trust. " My heart calmed down and I restarted. This led me to Africa.

In the turmoil of the Quiet Revolution of the 70s, to understand God's call was part of a tour de force. My years of study in theology at UQTR proved to be a hobby in hopes one day to understand where that would lead me. All lit up when I received my acceptance letter (which I treasure) inviting me to join the Missionaries of Africa. That day, I knew, not an intellectual or abstract knowledge, but by spiritual intuition, I finally found my way to follow Jesus completely. The initial hesitation then gave way to elation as a St. Francis of Assisi, who sheds all for a greater good: the abandonment and confidence in the Word of Truth, the Gospel.

According to Jewish tradition, Jesus has reached adult maturity at the age of 12. He moved to Jerusalem and the temple remains unknown to his parents who seek anxious for three days (Luke 2, 41-52). Only now I pay attention to the first word that comes from the mouth of Jesus as presented in the Gospel: "why you sought me? "In fact, the official recognition of his majority, with the intelligence that shows Jesus sitting among the teachers, it could have decided to pursue a successful career at the Temple of Jerusalem rabbinical. However, it will return to Nazareth for another 18 years before the beginning of his apostolic life. Jesus does so, because its real mission is to live in the house of his Father, he will do once and for all on the cross.

This same issue that has monopolized my youthful years: why am I looking for Jesus? More than ever, this issue remains alive while the building of the Catholic tradition is strained, interspersed with scandals and prophecies.

Ultimately, it is deciding how to Jesus. What is this way of doing things? It's all about freedom from a choice that has to be that the well-being of my own person, to Rather, dedicate the choice to others, especially the poorest. In my case, this has materialized in my missionary in Africa, to begin in Zaire-Congo, Malawi and then maybe soon in Zambia.

- What should I do? "Asked the rich young man to Jesus (Mark 10: 17-22).

- One thing you lack: go, free yourself from the chains that keep you from devoting your life to your brothers and sisters, then come, follow me.

Living how to Jesus, I am welcome and offer my addiction the will of the Father. For that, I try to preserve what is good while keeping me so hard that my whole being, my spirit, my soul and body be kept blameless (1Thess 5, 17-24). The appeal of yesterday is the same as today. As before, I do not know where I'll be in the coming years. I do not care. In this way, I tame me calmly that other passage that will be my death. The taste of life that drives me today, already has a taste of eternity.
