Windward Reports Free

Back "flash"

Is the threat of Hurricane (It felt to Montreal Saturday night with a wind dehorning steers!) Or fear of the American police have made us go so fast? Last Wednesday night, on the coastal road * 95 between New York and Boston, we stopped in a small town to find a place to sleep - Fairfield.

Since the beginning of the journey, we know that in theory, sleeping in his car is forbidden in the U.S. (in Canada too, perhaps?), Why? Risk of being rammed by another car during the night or fear of the "vagrancy", we will never know really. The fact is that so far police had found better things to do than come see us in our van - and then we were too well hidden. But it was written, it had to happen. First, we stop in a residential and parquons our van behind another car, a place that seems quiet and where you are allowed to park our car overnight. I go to the back, begins to store the bags and to "make the bed" but when Nico is about to join me, an individual (citizen) equipped with a flashlight (powerful) shines on it the the front seat ... "What are you doing?" His tone is scared! And besides ... Nico has barely time to respond, the guy is carapate to his house, with a "fuck" for every "goodbye". T will he get his gun? Call the police? Not expected to know. Five minutes later, we are already far. We laugh, we tell ourselves that we dodged a bullet. And we ended up falling asleep alongside a busy highway, next to some noisy bars.

Until we wake up. At 1:30 in the morning.

At first, we still believe in a dream. Yellow or white light that illuminates the entire rear of the van and we hear the muffled voice from the outside they would those of a little green man? It looks, scared - we try to understand. And then the voice again and this time it includes: "Police Department, Go Out Of The Van, Now". The speaker distorts the voice and gives her a metallic robot. "What do we do?" we say. We wonder if we actually saw - maybe he is trying at random, without knowing if someone is in the van. Is he really asking us to leave? ... At that hour and in this state of sleep, one comes to doubt the reality of the unreal scene. Did the police really time to waste with us? Unfortunately it seems so, since the little blue man (not green) reiterated his message. We must get out. Nico the great man Red therefore leaves our cave - hands forward: it is too afraid of the gun, or tazer, or both. "What are you doing?" resumed the voice I still can not see, metallic months this time, because this gentleman is out of his car (and probably shines his flashlight on the face of my darling, but anyway it was the headlights in your face, it does makes no difference). "We Are Having a nap" Nico replied in a flash of genius that allows him not to lie, but tell him the whole truth. "You are Having a nap in the middle of the road in the middle of the night?" Energises the blue man. "Er, yes" humbly said Nico. "Well," the cop doing a tone of Supervisor of school by a student upset too clever, "Go sleep somewhere else!". And he pretends to leave, without asking our papers or our license, nothing.

It will not do it twice. It is of the essence right next to take the time to wake up, then drove to Nico 2:15 am - the cop did not follow us, he finally something else to do. Then, finally, there is a Wallmart parking lot, known for its flexibility in this area. It ends up successfully sleep there, despite the adrenaline rush. And not without promise that this will be our last night in the United States, at least for this trip.

This will be done, because we're finally stayed a few hours to arrive in Boston on Thursday night in Quebec, where customs officials have kindly let go, despite our hippie look, without even searching our good old Betty covered objects fetishes: shells, stones and decorations of all kinds. Not the same on this side of the border.

After a dodo in Magog, arrived safely at Montreal on Friday. It is a bit lost at first, with nowhere to "ask", but Caro and Matthew quickly we offer hospitality for the night, then we welcome Maria and Enrique in turn by that we found an apartment. The desire to have a real home after 2 ½ months on the road it will speed things up? Anyway, within 2 days of searching ... Found! From September 15th, we will have our (very) small with us, cheap, in the heart of the Plateau; exactly what we wanted.
